I Participated in the Incognito Art Show Sydney 2025: An Artist’s Perspective By Karen Fourie | Owner of Art with Kari
Bold, expressive, happy, and bright – that’s the heart of my work, and this year, it was proudly part of Australia’s most inclusive art event.
What is the Incognito Art Show Sydney 2025?
The Incognito Art Show Sydney 2025 is one of Australia’s most exciting and accessible art exhibitions. Held at The Garden Gallery, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, this unique event offers original artworks by thousands of artists – all sold anonymously for just $100 each. The artist’s name is only revealed after purchase, adding an incredible element of surprise.
This year’s show ran from 26 May to 22 June 2025, with both in-person and online sales.
My Experience at the In-Person Exhibition
I had the joy of visiting the in-person exhibition at The Garden Gallery, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. The location was simply perfect – easy to find, beautifully situated, and just a short walk from the NSW Art Gallery.
The gallery space itself was thoughtfully curated. Each artwork was well lit, carefully displayed, and beautifully arranged, making it easy to browse and appreciate each piece. The way the works were presented gave the exhibition a warm, inviting atmosphere, despite the fast-paced, first-come, first-served nature of the event.
Whether you were there to hunt for a famous artist or simply to discover something that spoke to you, the whole experience was accessible, enjoyable, and wonderfully inclusive.
My Experience as an Incognito Artist
I’m thrilled to have contributed to this year’s Incognito Art Show. As Karen Fourie, also known as Kari, I’m passionate about creating bold, happy, unique works with intricate line work and bright colours.
The anonymous nature of the show allowed me to create freely and joyfully, knowing that each piece would find its perfect home based purely on connection, not my name.
And I’m absolutely thrilled to share that all three of my artworks sold during the show! It’s such a wonderful feeling knowing that my work is now bringing happiness to three new homes.
I love that this show:
Encourages art buyers to trust their hearts
Supports incredible disability arts programs
Brings together beginners and Archibald Prize winners on the same walls
There’s something beautiful about knowing my work could sit alongside some of Australia’s most celebrated artists – and perhaps someone picked mine simply because it made them feel happy.
Background and Inspiration
I am a South African-Australian professionally trained visual artist living in beautiful Sydney, Australia. My art style is fauvist, known for its bold colours, expressive brushwork, and joyful energy.
Through my work as a fine artist, I create vibrant pieces designed to uplift and energise your space. Art, for me, is not just something you look at—it’s something you feel.
Alongside creating fine art, I run my creative business, Art with Kari, where I help students explore the artistic process from the very first concept to the final design. My workshops focus on teaching students to become active thinkers and creative problem solvers.
I’m also the proud author of three colouring books and am currently working on my fourth colouring book, which continues to bring art, mindfulness, and creativity into everyday life.
